Endometriosis Awareness Month

March is Endometriosis Awareness Month. Endometriosis is an inflammatory condition where endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus. Endometrial tissues is tissue similar to the lining of the uterus. For example, It is estimated that 1 in 10 women have endometriosis. Endometriosis is represented by the yellow ribbon pin, fabric ribbon or yellow wristband.

In addition, endometriosis frequently presents with the symptom of pain including dysmenorrhea (painful periods), dyspareunia (pain during sexual intercourse), and chronic pelvic or abdominal pain. It can cause infertility and for women with sub-fertility the prevalence rate ranges from 25% to 40%.

Raise Awareness About Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a fertility heath issue that happens when cells or tissues similar to the tissues that form the uterine lining (the endometrium) relocate and begin to grow outside the uterus. Endometriosis can, in addition, grow in and on the organs of the pelvic cavity. This includes, for example, the ovaries, fallopian tubes, and bowel. Some women experience endometriosis so severely that it is found on other organs throughout her body. Although this is very rare, it does happen. So far, neither a cause nor cure has been found.

“Endometriosis can have a devastating effect on quality of life due to its very painful symptoms. It is the biggest cause of infertility in women. And, endometriosis carries a huge personal and societal cost. It is time to raise awareness of a disease that affects women and their families in their most (re)productive years!” – Endometriosis.org
