National Donate Life Month is observed in April. This awareness month focuses national attention on organ, eye and tissue donation and transplantation. It also emphasize the importance of registering your decision to be an organ donor. In addition, it honors deceased and living donors, celebrating the lifesaving and healing gift of transplantation. The color that represents National Donate Life Month is green for organ donation.
National Donate Life Month (NDLM) was established by Donate Life America and its partnering organizations in 2003. Observed in April each year, this awareness month helps raise awareness about donation. Further, it encourages Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. Finally, it honors those who have saved lives through the gift of donation.
The color green represents organ and tissue donation. Consequently, the green ribbon is a badge of honor. It is also a symbol of giving hope and sharing life through organ, eye and tissue donation. For this reason, it represents the simple act of saying yes. Yes is a small word that gives each of us the power to save up to eight lives and improve many more.
National Donate Life Month features an entire month of local, regional and national activities to help encourage Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors. And it celebrates those who have saved lives through the gift of donation. Again, it is the generosity of donors and donor families that makes saving lives through transplantation possible.
Donate LifeSM is the national brand for the cause of donation. This month unites the hundreds of donation and transplantation organizations. It highlights that more than 100,000 patients are waiting for transplant. It also affirms the life and legacy of the more than 1 million recipients in the U.S. and their families. Further, it honors the donor families who say yes in their time of grief. Finally, it calls attention to the more than 170 million people who have registered their decision to be a donor and help others at the end of their life.
Give hope and help save lives by registering your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor at your local DMV, on RegisterMe.org or in your iPhone Health App.
